Hi, I'm Maya π
I grew up two blocks from the ocean. I learned to throw pots at 14 from my grandmother, and I haven't stopped since. What started as a hobby in my garage turned into a full studio β my kiln, my clay, my glazes, my hands.
Every single piece you see in this store was made by me. I sculpt the details, mix the glazes, load the kiln, fire overnight, unload at dawn, and inspect every inch before it ships. There are no employees. No warehouse. No factory in China. Just me, my studio, and the ocean outside my window.
I started selling online because I wanted people across the country to have a little piece of the sea in their homes β not mass-produced decor, but something real. Something someone made with their hands and their heart.
How Your Pot Is Made
From raw clay to your doorstep β every step done by Maya, by hand.
The Clay
Maya sources high-quality stoneware clay and conditions it by hand. Each pot starts as a block of clay she wedges and prepares herself β no premixed shortcuts.
Throwing the Form
Using her pottery wheel, Maya throws the base form for each pot. This alone can take 30β45 minutes per piece as she works the walls to exactly the right thickness.
Sculpting the Details
Once leather-hard, Maya hand-sculpts each creature β every fin, every scale, every shell texture is added individually with sculpting tools and her fingers.
First Firing (Bisque)
The pot goes into Maya's kiln for its first firing at 1900Β°F. This takes 8β10 hours and turns raw clay into hard bisqueware, ready for glazing.
Hand-Mixed Glazes
Maya mixes her own glazes from dry chemicals β her ocean blues, pearl whites, and sea greens are all original recipes she's developed over years of experimentation.
Glaze Firing & Finish
Final firing at 2200Β°F fuses the glaze into the clay β transforming it into a permanent, food-safe, waterproof surface. Maya inspects every piece and signs the base before shipping.
Why Maya's Pots Are Different
There are thousands of pottery shops online. Here's why customers keep coming back to Maya.
Actually Handmade
Not "handmade-inspired" or "artisan-style." Every piece is thrown on Maya's wheel, sculpted by her hands, and fired in her studio. Full stop.
Original Glaze Recipes
Maya spent years developing her ocean glaze palette. You won't find these colors anywhere else β they're made from scratch in her studio.
Deeply Inspired Design
Maya grew up by the sea. These aren't generic "ocean themed" pieces β every sculpted detail comes from years of watching waves, creatures, and tidal patterns.
Signed & Unique
Every piece is signed by Maya on the base. Because of the hand-sculpting process, no two are identical β yours is truly one of a kind.
High-Fired Stoneware
Fired to cone 6 β that's 2200Β°F. Most mass-produced pottery fires far lower. High-firing means stronger, more durable, food-safe ceramics.
Packed With Love
Maya packs every single order herself β double-wrapped, carefully boxed, with a handwritten thank-you note inside. Because your order matters to her personally.
